Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) - Lakeshore Records will release Countdown to Zero - Original Soundtrack, available digitally on July 20th and in stores on August 17, 2010. The film was directed by Lucy Walker and features original music composed by Peter Golub (Frozen River, The Great Debaters, The Laramie Project).

Peter Golub is an innovative voice in independent filmmaking, moving back and forth between documentary and fiction films. Recent scores include: Kirby Dick's Outrage, Patrick Creadon's I.O.U.S.A. and Wordplay, the PBS Independent Lens presentation Stolen, an account of the unsolved theft of priceless art from Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. He composed music for the acclaimed HBO drama The Laramie Project, Courtney Hunt's acclaimed Frozen River (nominated for 2 Academy Awards) and with James Newton Howard he co-composed the score for Denzel Washington's uplifting The Great Debaters.

Countdown To Zero traces the history of the atomic bomb from its origins to the present state of global affairs: nine nations possessing nuclear weapons capabilities with others racing to join them, with the world held in a delicate balance that could be shattered by an act of terrorism, failed diplomacy, or a simple accident. Written and directed by acclaimed documentarian Lucy Walker (The Devil's Playground, Blindsight), the film features an array of important international statesmen, including President Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Pervez Musharraf and Tony Blair. It makes a compelling case for worldwide nuclear disarmament, an issue more topical than ever with the Obama administration working to revive this goal today.

'There is a great deal of variety in the types of documentary films today that invites a wide range of musical responses,' said Golub. 'The task with Countdown to Zero was how to keep the music serious and compelling while at the same time leaving the audience with a sense of wanting to know more and follow the story. I tried to balance the frightening enormity of the issue with a desire to follow the specifics in a positive way.'

The film, which was an official selection of both the 2010 Cannes Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival, was produced by Academy Award winner Lawrence Bender (Inglourious Basterds, An Inconvenient Truth) and developed, financed and executive produced by Participant Media, together with World Security Institute. Jeff Skoll, Diane Weyermann, Bruce Blair and Matt Brown are the film's executive producers.

Magnolia Pictures presents Countdown to Zero, opening in limited release on July 23, 2010. Countdown to Zero - Original Soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be released digitally on July 20th and in stores on August 17, 2010.
