LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ Sony Music Entertainment UK) - After four months of fevered anticipation and the most exciting and highly viewed series yet, The X Factor winner Joe McElderry marks his triumph with the release of his debut single 'The Climb', released on Syco Music/Sony Music. Joe's performances have entranced audiences and viewers all over the UK and received outstanding comments from the show's judges. Belting out versions of 'Dancing With My Father', 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word' and in a stunning duet with George Michael, 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', Joe fought off tough competition from Olly Murs and Stacey Soloman to be crowned victor of ITV1's The X Factor.

Joe now releases his debut single 'The Climb', his version of the Miley Cyrus smash hit, as a download after the result is announced on The X Factor on Sunday 13th December, just hours after millions witnessed him claim the winner's crown. CD manufacturers are currently heading into meltdown to produce the physical release of the single to be released on Wednesday 16th December. Moments after the announcement of Joe's triumph, presses kicked into action to ensure enough copies are in the shops to meet the predicted massive demand.

The CD released will also feature two bonus tracks - 'Somebody to Love' and 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me' two audience favourites from Joe's time on the show.

Joe still lives with his family in South Shields, he started singing a few years ago after playing around on a karaoke machine. Since then, he's performed in a number of local musicals (inc Grease) and entered the 'Music Means Life', a regional singing competition, in 2008 where he came 3rd and he's also entered 'Pride of Tyne Side' competition and won 'performer of the year'. Joe entered The X Factor in 2007 and reached Bootcamp but decided to leave the competition as he felt he was too young and wanted more experience.

The X Factor 2009 has been the most successful series of the talent show to date. With an average 14 million tuning in to the live shows. With such impressive statistics it's no wonder Joe is the bookies favourite to secure this year's Christmas No.1 single.
