New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) -
Elizabeth Mitchell, whose lovingly rendered family album "
Sunny Day" will be released by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings October 5th, is on tour now with her own family across the US through the fall. In addition to playing New York City's Symphony Space and both days of the Austin City Limits "Austin Kiddie Limits" Festival, Mitchell and family will present a "
Sunny Day" record release show
September 25th at Levon Helm's Kid's Ramble in Woodstock, NY. The Kid's Ramble is an offshoot of Helm's renowned Midnight Rambles, which have included such musical guests as Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Joan Osborne, and Phil Lesh.
In her shows, Mitchell applies her gentle touch to American and international folk, rock and roll, children's rhyming games, traditional country, reggae and R&B material and re-imagines them in the distinct style heard on "Sunny Day" and her previous Smithsonian Folkways album "You Are My Little Bird."
"Our concerts are a mix of quiet, intimate music, very interactive call-and-response songs, and full-on dance party time," Mitchell says. "People will hear folk music in different languages, early rock and roll, the Velvet Underground and original songs written by a four year old! That's my idea of a good time."
Mitchell's stage show includes her husband Daniel Littleton on guitar and her daughter Storey Littleton playing harmonica and singing. Both also perform on "Sunny Day"; the album's guest performers include Levon Helm, Dan Zanes, Jon Langford (Mekons), and the Children of Agape Choir of South Africa. Daniel and Elizabeth are also founding members of the veteran independent rock band Ida.
