In addition to jaw-dropping scenery, performances by the finest blues, rock, gospel and soul artists and more than 150 brews from over 50 of the best microbreweries from the Southwest and beyond, the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival is delighted to announce the addition of a free concert to kick-off the weekend's festivities. The Sunset Blues Concert, which will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010, will feature British blues sensation, Matt Schofield, and hometown favorites, the Gold Kings.

There is no better way to launch the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival than with guitarist extraordinaire Matt Schofield. Schofield is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive and innovative guitarists to have emerged on the world scene for several generations. He is rated in the top ten British blues guitarists of all time (Guitar & Bass Magazine), putting him in the company of such iconic names as Eric Clapton and Peter Green. The LA Daily News went as far to say, "In Schofield, the UK has produced the best blues guitarist from any country in decades." With this kind of respect, catching Schofield's performance is a no-brainer.

Opening up the show will be the Gold Kings, a five piece band whose sound is overflowing with cool rock and blues jams, reggae rhythms and funky back beats. The Gold Kings is comprised of local musicians Steve Green, Sean McNamara, Mark Galbo, Mark Frankman and Stephen Scanlon. McNamara puts out the vocals with a satin finish, while Steve Green sings harmonies and plays lead guitar. Galbo plays the base Like Victor Wooten on a Chicago blues train and Mark Frankman tickles the keys and adds some special sound effects. Scanlon is from North Dublin, Ireland, where the soul brothers of Europe reside; he puts down the beats that make you want to dance. The whole band puts out a fun, get up and dance, funky jams set, making a perfect beginning to an astounding weekend of music.

The 17th Annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival will also feature B.B. King, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Band, George Thorogood and the Destroyers with special guests Elvin Bishop and Eddie Shaw, Galactic with Cyril Neville and Corey Henry, Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-A-Whirl Band, Allen Toussaint, T-Model Ford, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, JJ Grey & Mofro, Cedric Burnside & Lightnin' Malcolm, Matt Schofield, Alberta Cross, The Dana Fuchs Band, Ronnie Baker Brooks, The Beth Hart Band, Gospel Morning with The Otis Taylor Band featuring Chuck Campbell and the Sheryl Renee Choir, Grady Champion, Terrence Simian & the Zydeco Experience, Dead Confederate, The Sugar Thieves, The Bill Magee Blues Band, Little Al Thomas and The Deep Down Fools.

Telluride Blues & Brews proudly presents the Grand Tasting on Saturday, September 18, 2010. One of the premier tasting events in the Southwest, the Grand Tasting features more than 150 beers from over 50 microbreweries, including those from the Telluride Blues & Brews official beer sponsor, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. This event has it all, from ales to lagers, nut browns to I.P.A.'s and everything in between, from award-winning microbreweries from the Southwest and beyond.

There's more than just the Blues & Brews in store for you. Telluride Blues & Brews has something for all ages. Additional festival highlights include, late night shows at the local Juke Joints and After Hours Jams, Free Acoustic Artist Series, The Rainbow Kids area and Kid's parade, Blues for Breakfast and the Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition.

Tickets for the 17th Annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival are on sale now! A three-day pass is available for $160.00 and Juke Joint tickets are sold per night at $25. Friday and Sunday tickets can be purchased for $55.00 each and Saturday for $65.00. Bal de Maison are $20 and After Hours Jam are $15.00. Festival camping is available adjacent to the festival grounds for $40 per person and are valid for 4 nights starting Thursday, September 16.
