New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ It's Alive Media) - Cambodian-American rock band Dengue Fever (www.myspace.com/denguefevermusic) announced today that they have confirmed their Hawaiian debut, headlining the Third Annual Hallowbaloo
Music + Arts Festival (https://www.hallowbaloo.com/) in Honolulu on Saturday, October 30.
Hallowbaloo is the largest music showcase in Hawaii with over 10 bands and 15 DJs on offer over two days (Friday 10/29 and Saturday 10/30) and also doubles as the largest costume party in the Pacific with over 10,000 costumed revelers joining the fun in 2009. Dengue Fever headlines Hallowbaloo's Saturday street festival and multi-club promotion which features entertainment at five outdoor stages and eight clubs encompassing eight city blocks in the Honolulu Arts District. With all performances on the outdoor stages being free and the ability to enjoy all eight clubs with the purchase of one ticket, it's the perfect night to explore this pedestrian-friendly corridor of century-old storefronts that house a fantastic array of eclectic clubs, art galleries, restaurants, bars and concert halls/theatres. Dengue Fever will perform on the Loloweeny Stage (free outdoor stage) along with The Budos Band.
Additional events for Dengue Fever are in the planning stages and will be announced shortly. In 2007, the band's documentary Sleepwalking Through the Mekong screened at the Hawaii International Film Festival and the Honolulu Star ?Bulletin described the film as"... a fascinating journey that basically brings a Southeast Asian country's music back to its people."
Dengue Fever is currently recording a new album that will be released in Spring 2011 on Fantasy Records, a division of Concord Music Group. Their forthcoming release will feature all new material, and will include tracks in both Khmer and English.
Dengue Fever's ascent from local eastside Los Angeles indie band to international pop attraction has been a steady climb. Known for their high- energy live shows at clubs, theaters and festivals, the band has captured attention from some unconventional corners. Metallica's Kirk Hammett chose their song 'One Thousand Tears of a Tarantula' as his second favorite song of the decade in Rolling Stone; in 2010, Dengue Fever was the answer of a question on Jeopardy!; and, True Blood, HBO's smash television series not only featured band's music but also named an entire episode after their composition, 'Escape from Dragon House.'
The band has garnered critical praise from all over the world. Amazon.com named Dengue Fever's second album 'Escape From Dragon House' the No 1 International Release of the Year, Spin magazine featured the band in their 'Breaking Out' section, and high profile features have appeared in the New York Times, Magnet, Wired, and N.P.R.'s 'Fresh Air' just to name a few.
ABOUT DENGUE FEVER
Dengue Fever is Cambodian songstress Chhom Nimol, Zac Holtzman (guitar/vocals), Ethan Holtzman (keyboards), Senon Williams (bass), Paul Smith (drums) and David Ralicke (horns). They have released three albums, Dengue Fever, Escape From Dragon House Venus On Earth and the DVD/CD soundtrack to the band's documentary Sleepwalking Through The Mekong, in addition to a collection of lost Cambodian classics, Dengue Fever Presents: Electric Cambodia. They are based in Los Angeles.
