New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps) - The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Symphonic Band, the premier band featuring lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender musicians and their friends within the New York City metropolitan area, today announced its 31st season. Presented as two themed concerts, the upcoming season will feature music that spans from classical to Broadway to rock 'n' roll.

Artistic Director Brian Worsdale, now in his sixth season, will conduct the following performances:

* Come Follow the Band: From Mendelssohn to The Beatles on Sat., Dec. 4, 2010 at 8 p.m. takes a fresh approach at explaining how the sounds of rock 'n' roll created by The Beatles and Earth, Wind & Fire evolved from earlier periods of music. This concert will also feature euphonium soloist Joseph Bello, as well as masterworks by Corigliano, Grainger, and Holst.

* Once Upon a Time: Stories, Myths and Legends on Sat., April 30, 2011 at 8 p.m. highlights the music that makes our favorite larger-than-life characters come alive, including Sweeney Todd and Lord of the Rings. The concert will also feature the stories of Casey at the Bat and Tubby the Tuba, among others.

This year, the ensemble will continue to honor exemplary contributions to music and the LGBT community with the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Profile in Leadership Award. Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning composer John Corigliano will receive the award on Dec. 4, 2010. During the April 30, 2011 concert, the band will honor Steve Reineke, composer, arranger, and music director of The New York Pops. In 2009, Distinguished Concerts International - New York was the first recipient.

"We are more than just a community band," said Worsdale. "Every time our members step on stage to perform we have an opportunity to shape how the world views the LGBT community. We hope you will become part of a movement that began more than 30 years ago when musicians gathered on Christopher Street in New York City with their instruments."

All performances for the 2010/11 season are at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. For additional information or to join the band, visit www.lgbac.org.

Season sponsors include WNYC, East of Eighth Restaurant & Bar, and TD Bank. The LGBAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
