Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ LMS Records) - In 2009, UNESCO granted Tango dance and music protected cultural status recognizing that one of the world's most vital cultural heritages was in danger of disappearing forever. In response to the need for funding to preserve the art and music of tango, Los Angeles-based LMS Records has pledged to donate 100% of the proceeds from sales of the inspired and passionate tango track, 'Mercado Buenos Aires' by the Pepe Motta Quartet from the recently released LMS Records tango collection, 'Tango Apasionado' to the non-profit organization TangoVia, Buenos Aires to benefit The Tango
Digital Archive. The single can be purchased exclusively at on CD Baby at https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/PepeMottaQuartet
'The evolution of Tango music and dance are as culturally and historically relevant to the people of Argentina as Blues and Bluegrass music are to the people of the United States,' says LMS Records president, Daniel Indart. 'LMS Records is committed to working with TangoVia to safeguard what remains of this incredibly rich tradition of music, dance and art.'
Launched in 2009, by TangoVia's artistic director Ignacio Varchausky the Digital Tango Archive an exhaustive, archaeological effort to recover lost materials relating to the history of tango. Through the digitalization of recordings, photographs, scores, film and musical arrangements, material, once reserved to a few scholars will be broadly available online for free consultation. Presently, in Argentina out of the estimated 100,000 tango recordings made between 1902 and 1995, less than 20% of are available on CD and more than 3,000 recordings and thousands of hours of radio and TV programs no longer exist in any format and have been lost forever as a result of lax stewardship of cultural assets.
'The advanced age of many collectors, the estimated value of this material on the international black market, and the precarious conditions in which many materials are stored make this project extremely urgent, says TangoVia president Ignacio Varchausky. 'We are very excited to be working with LMS Records to help save a fundamental part of our cultural memory.'
