New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Chasen & Company) - Elliot Goldenthal: MUSIC FROM THE TEMPEST - the soundtrack for the feature film of Shakespeare's final play - will be released by Zarathustra Music on December 14th following the film's release December 10th by Touchstone Pictures. The digital download of the album will be available on iTunes and other digital retailers on December 7th.

The Tempest, which was the closing night film at the Venice Film Festival and the centerpiece of the New York Film Festival, stars Helen Mirren, Djimon Hounsou, Russell Brand, Ben Whishaw, David Strathairn, Chris Cooper, Alan Cumming and Alfred Molina and is directed by Tony-winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King on Broadway, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, FRIDA).

Goldenthal's diverse career encompasses works in the theater (The Green Bird), opera (Grendel), ballet (Othello), and the concert hall (Fire Water Paper: A Vietnam Oratorio). He has previously collaborated with Taymor on three other films; Titus, Across The Universe and Frida, for which he was honored with two Oscar nominations and received the Oscar for Best Original Score. He has also collaborated extensively with filmmaker Neil Jordan and was nominated for Academy Awards for his films Interview with the Vampire and Michael Collins. Goldenthal also received the Golden Globe and Grammy Awards for his work on Frida, was honored by the LA Film Critics for The Butcher Boy and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2007 for his opera Grendel.

Elliot Goldenthal: MUSIC FROM THE TEMPEST was produced by Goldenthal and is the maiden release on his Zarathustra Music label. Goldenthal's indie-rock driven original score features vocals by British cult-favorite Beth Gibbons (Portishead) performing the track 'Prospera's Coda,' and Reeve Carney (Carney and star of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark opening soon on Broadway) singing the ballad 'O Mistress Mine.' Other musicians on the album include Benjamin Curtis(Secret Machines), Page Hamilton (Helmet), Mark Stewart (Steve Reich and the Musicians) as well as the composer himself on keyboards. Haunting ballads, trippy, up-tempo instrumentals and orchestral electronica round out this unique listening experience.

No stranger to Shakespeare, Goldenthal has worked on numerous plays by the Bard in the theater as well as scoring an original full-length ballet of Othello. 'My goal for the film was to utilize the verse that Shakespeare provided and create a compelling musical tapestry that would complement the riveting imagery of Julie's film,' stated Goldenthal. The album runs 35 minutes and includes a 20-page, deluxe booklet. Log-on to the composer's facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ElliotGoldenthal) for more information.
