Scarsdale, NY (Top40 Charts/ Great Scott Productions) - While many musicians spruce up their repertoire during the holiday season by recording a Christmas perennial, jazz combo
Dennis Angel Band recorded an original composition that just may become a modern classic.
"My Favorite Time Of The Year," featuring the warm, soulful vocals of Chantele DiBrava, debuted as the No 1 most added radio single on the Groove Jazz Music chart and is one of the most added tracks at SmoothJazz.com. Written by trumpeter-bandleader Dennis Angel, produced by bassist David Shaich and arranged by pianist Joel Mofsenson, the classy cut is available on the SMR Records label at CD Baby, Amazon, iTunes and other online retail outlets. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the single will benefit the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation.
Angel said, "The holiday track was initially written as an instrumental. Then our radio promoter, Jason Gorov, suggested that I write a Christmas song because there seemed to be a greater demand than supply this year. I do not think there have been many new holiday songs written recently, so I decided to give it a try. I added lyrics, purposely making the song nondenominational for broader appeal. Hopefully people will find the message in the lyrics to be positive and uplifting, and that the song helps them get into the holiday spirit."
"My Favorite Time Of The Year" was selected to appear this month on the HitDisc compilation serviced to radio stations, Wal-Mart and other major retail stores, and the armed forces along with hot new singles by Mariah Carey, John Legend, Seal, Fourplay, Kenny Rogers, Brad Paisley and other marquee stars. Expect the band consisting of Angel, Shaich, Mofsenson, Mike Campenni (drums), Gottfried Stoger (sax, flute) and Sebastian Stoger-DeMayo (cello) to perform the song when they hit the stage at The Triad in New York City on December 18th. Each one of the band members performs regularly on the New York jazz club scene aside from Angel, who is a copyright attorney currently listed in Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who In America and Who's Who in the World.
Angel and his wife, Linda, are co-founders of the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, started in 1988 when their daughter, Ilana, was suffering from a brain tumor. She passed the following year. Dennis Angel Band remains committed to supporting the organization that has raised over $6.5 million to date.
Two previous Dennis Angel Band singles - "From BeBop to Hip-Hop" and "The Wall Street Recession Time Blues" - charted and received national airplay from both commercial and non-commercial radio stations, including Philadelphia's WXPN, one of the country's largest public outlets. Both singles were topical amalgams of jazz, hip hop and social commentary dispensed by cool-toned singer/rapper/minister DeForest Raphael. The compositions will be included on the band's debut album, humorously titled I Need Smooth Jazz, which the group is presently in the midst of recording. Look for it to be released during the first quarter of 2011.
