New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) Multiple Grammy-winning composer, violinist and educator Mark O'Connor will undertake an expansive schedule of projects this year that showcase his stunning prolificacy and wide range of musical ambitions, including a nationwide tour and the release of a holiday album with a star-studded list of contributors. O'Connor will also continue work on his educational endeavors, which include his acclaimed String Camps, a personal Manifesto, and the expansion of his own teaching method, which the New Yorker called "an American-grown rival to the Suzuki method," and the Strad Magazine writes, " If O'Connor is the new Suzuki, then Boil 'em Cabbage Down is the new Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star."
The tour begins this spring, and includes a March 6 performance at Boston Symphony Hall, featuring the world premiere of O'Connor's own work, "The Improvised Violin Concerto", commissioned by the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. Dates continue throughout the year, with other key performances highlighted below.
As an educator, O'Connor continues to share his vision of what he calls "America's classical music" with a new generation of string players. Tens of thousands of children around the country are now learning from the O'Connor Method, which includes great folk songs, fiddle tunes, original works and classic themes from America's 400-year-old history of violin playing, representing musical styles including classical, folk, Latin, jazz, rock and ragtime. Conceived as a 10-book series, O'Connor has so far published books 1 and 2 for the violin, as well as book 1 for cello, viola and orchestra.
In September, O'Connor will release a holiday album featuring collaborations with Renee Fleming, Sharon Isbin, Alison Krauss, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Jane Monheit, James Taylor, Chris Thile, Steve Wariner and more.
Stay tuned for updates.
