The overwhelming demand for tickets from fans sent phone lines into overdrive as 170,000 tickets for the two London Hyde Park shows went in record time. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of only a handful of artists to ever play in London's Hyde Park and Saturday was most historic as they became the first band ever to play two concerts in the park. A spokesperson for the London promoters Clear Channel Entertainment and Straight said, "The build up to the on-sale was fantastic and expectations were high, but to sell out two shows in such a remarkably short time is simply incredible." In Manchester the band made an equally big impact. They are the first band to play at the City of Manchester Stadium, which was built for the 2003 Commonwealth Games and every one of the 55,000 tickets was sold by lunchtime on Saturday. Edinburgh will host the first of the run of UK shows for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Scots did not let the band down with in excess of 50,000 tickets for the Murray Field Stadium sold in four hours.
The message by lunchtime on Saturday was 'if you don't have your ticket already, you are too late!' In November 2003 the band released Greatest Hits which to date has sold 3.7 million albums worldwide.
