MTV To Launch Award Show That Celebrates Digital Music
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ MTV Music Group) MTV Music Group, the most visited music online destination*, today announced the launch of a new award show that will celebrate the migration of music into the digital space to honor the art, creativity and technology of digital music. The inaugural O Music Award (OMAs), www.omusicawards.com, @OMAS on Twitter, will take place on Thursday, April 28 across multiple platforms and screens with the direction of the show taking its cues from the digital realm and will be lo-fi, highly lean-forward and interactive. Award winners will include artists, technology innovators, fans and web celebrities.

"Music is the fastest growing category in the digital space, but currently lacks an event that truly celebrates and rewards the innovation happening every day," said Van Toffler, President of MTV Music & Logo Group. "MTV has redefined the concept of the traditional award show and we're set to flip it on its head again with the launch of the OMAs."

With the event being born out of music in the interactive digital age, everything, including the title, will embody the central role the audience will play in shaping and customizing the show. The O preceding the Music Awards in OMAs will be purposely left unassigned and open for the audience interpretation. The event will debut and live across MTV Music Group's multiple digital platforms and screens, including MTV.com, VH1.com, CMT.com, and LOGOTV.com and will also include mobile and social media extensions. The awards show will convey the personality, humor, fluidly and transparency of the web and social media. Social media will play a critical role throughout the formation and duration of the OMAs. In the coming weeks, we'll announce the event's categories and nominees which will be sourced through creative, new uses of technology and social media. Additionally, similar to MTV Music Group's other tent pole award shows, both the awards and the ceremony will be irreverent and full of unexpected moments and surprises.

"The OMAs not only fills a much needed void, but also perfectly builds upon MTV Music Group's four pillars of music - discovery, consumption, interaction and sharing," said Dermot McCormack, Executive Vice President, MTV Music and Logo Group. "In the last few years, MTV Music Group has experienced exponential growth and has become the web's most visited online music destination. We're now in the right place to launch a first-of-its-kind award show that commemorates digital music and innovation."

The OMAs marks the latest in a series of digital music franchise launches for MTV Music Group, including Live in NYC, https://www.mtv.com/music/live_in_nyc/main.jhtml, POSTED, https://www.mtv.com/music/posted/linkin-park/#fbid=GibrbTilXWJ, the new season of Unplugged, https://www.mtv.com/music/unplugged, and MTV Music Meter, https://www.mtvmusicmeter.com. MTV Music Group is the most visited online music destination with more than 61 million unique visitors per month.
