LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts) American alt-rock outfit My Chemical Romance covered what is considered to be one of the top songs featured in the Britpop canon: Pulp's "Common People." The band performed the cover version on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge (March 31). My Chemical Romance have been blasted by fans for covering Pulp's 'Common People'. The version didn't seem to go down well with Pulp fans who launched an attack on the band over Twitter and YouTube. However, Pulp and My Chemical Romance are both set to play Reading & Leeds this summer. Rumours that MCR's next target are The Longpigs remain unconfirmed. Singer Gerard Way said: "This ['Common People'] is a song that, growing up in New Jersey, it was very important to me and Mikey [Way]. It was very relevant to us, feeling like you were in a place you could never get out of, that you were never going to escape. I remember pushing carts at a supermarket listening to this song on headphones on a cassette player and wondering whether the hell I was ever going to get out of New Jersey. It ['Common People'] speaks to regular people and that's why it's so great. And they're an amazing band."
