New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ MusicMesse) During the international Musikmesse in Frankfurt am Main from 6 to 9 April 2011, visitors can discover more than just a huge range of products because, every year, the Musikmesse is also the venue for the presentation of important awards for products and musicians from the sector.
The Musikmesse is distinguished not only by the most musical in-struments and concerts that it is possible to see and hear in four days. It is also where everyone - from manufacturers to important personalities from the musical instrument sector - hopes to receive one of the coveted awards.
PRG LEA
The 6th PRG Live Entertainment Award (PRG LEA) will be presented on Tuesday, 5 April. Given in 14 categories, the German Live En-tertainment Award honours outstanding achievements by concert promoters, agents, artists' managers and venue operators. An award will also be given for lifetime's work in live entertainment, for special commitment to helping young people and - with the Jury Award - for outstanding services to the sector. Many national and international stars including Michael Bolton, Helene Fischer, the 'Juli' band, Klaus Doldinger and members of the Scorpions, have already said they will be coming for the Gala Evening.
Frankfurt Music Prize
This year, the coveted Frankfurt Music Prize will be presented during the PRG LEA evening in the 'Festhalle' of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibi-tion Centre and goes to Swedish mezzo soprano Anne Sofie von Otter. Worth � 15,000 the prize will be presented to the versatile singer by the Mayor of Frankfurt, Petra Roth. With this award, the jury is not only honouring the artist's extraordinary voice but also her multi-faceted repertoire, which ranges from Baroque to jazz.
German Musical Instrument Award
The 21st German Music Instrument Award will be presented during this year's Musikmesse in Frankfurt am Main. This year, the award is for instruments in the bass trumpet and archtop guitar categories and goes to two workshops per category. The awards ceremony will take place in Cafe Classic, Hall 1.2, and begins at 18.30 hrs on 7 April 2011. The winners are:

Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA)
Every year on the occasion of the Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound trade fairs, journalists from over 100 trade magazines worldwide se-lect the best products of the musical instrument and professional audio industry. The MIPA awards ceremony, which begins at 18.30 hrs, will be held in 'Saal Europa', Hall 4.0 on Thursday, 7 April 2011.
Under the auspices of MM-Musik-Media-Verlag publishing company and Musikmesse, international music journalists meet in Frankfurt to select the winners of the Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA) in more than 40 categories. One of the evening's highlights is the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
European School Music Award
The Society of Music Merchants (SOMM) will present the first Euro-pean School Music Award (ESP) at this year's Musikmesse and ProLight + Sound in Frankfurt. Worth � 4,000, the Award aims to document good examples of creative musical education in the class-room and in various music-making programmes. By documenting their projects and lessons, schools will have the opportunity to shape and implement them in such a way that they are not only sustainable but can also be used by the schools for public-relations purposes. The awards will be given in six different categories plus special awards. The Award ceremony takes place: 8 April, SOMM, Hall 3.1, Stand A 05, 14pm.
SchoolJam Finale
The SchoolJam school-band festival is entering the last and decisive phase. The finals of Germany's biggest competition for school bands will be held at Musikmesse 2011 in Frankfurt and will begin at 18.00 hrs on Friday, 8 April 2011. Star guest of the evening is the band Sunrise Avenue.
The eight finalists - Last Exit, Short Run, joormade, Beta 2.0, At Eaze, Kyonic, Rising Anger and Zero Gravitation - will appear on the Agora Stage at Musikmesse and perform not only to win over the audience but also the jury. For there is much at stake - the winning band will have the chance to appear not only at this year's HURRICANE but also at the SOUTHSIDE FESTIVAL. Moreover, they will also have the chance to travel to the USA and perform at the American SchoolJam Finals.
DJ Tools Award
Following the success of last year's premiere, Musikmesse Frankfurt and Elevator Future of Music are now holding the 2nd DJ Tools Award. From club mixers and DJ headphones to DJ software and the matching controllers, there are a total of 12 categories to be voted on at the DJ Tools Award 2011. After the voting, participants are invited to register for a competition for some of the most popular DJ tools.
Incidentally, some important changes have been made for this year's Tools Award - the concept has been greatly simplified and trans-formed into a users' award. This means that the product with the most online votes per category wins.
The DJ Tools Award ceremony will be held in Hall 5.1, stand B32, at the Musikmesse form 11.00 to 17.00 hrs on Saturday, 9 April.
Music Award
To be awarded at the Musikmesse for the first time this year, the 'www.drums.de Music Award' is the result of a collaboration between Musikmesse Frankfurt, www.drums.de and several companies from the fields of music, video, media and promotion. 50 percent of the nominations will be made by a jury of experts and 50 percent by Mu-sikmesse visitors who will have the chance to judge each video shown at www.drums.de via a special voting procedure. The star guests on stage will be 'Silbermond'. The band members will also take part in an autograph session afterwards.
German Pianist Award
The International Piano Forum will present the first German Pianist Award during a concert given by the winner at the 'Alte Oper' in Frankfurt am Main on 8 April 2011. The 'German Pianist Award' is an initiative of the International Piano Forum and is being given in co-operation with the German Academies and Conservatoires. The candidates nominated for the award are young pianists with the ar-tistic and, in particular, overall potential for a concert career. A jury of renowned experts will select the nominees and, finally, the winner of the German Pianist Award in an independent procedure supervised by a notary.
Best Edition Music Award
The German Music Publishers' Association (DMV) has been hon-ouring the editorial achievements of German music publishers with the 'Best Edition' Music Award since 1991. The graphic quality of sheet music has gained ever more in significance since the introduc-tion of sheet music, when music ceased to be passed on orally and assumed cultural and historical significance, and since the invention of mechanical reproduction by the printing press, which was associ-ated with the standardisation of the type face in accordance with physiological considerations, when music became the property of everyman. The presentation will be held on the Acoustic Stage from 10.00 to 12.00 hrs on Thursday, 7 April.
PPV Medien Reader Award
Every year, thousands of readers of SOUNDCHECK, KEYS, TASTENWELT, DRUMHEADS and GUITAR magazines take part in the voting for the best musical instruments and equipment, the win-ners of which are honoured with the PPVMEDIEN Reader Award. What makes this award so special is that the Reader Awards are given by the users themselves, which makes it a unique distinction for the winning products. The PPVMEDIEN Reader Awards 2011 will be presented at the Musikmesse/Prolight+Sound in 'Saal Illusion' of Congress Centre Messe Frankfurt at 16.30 hrs on Wednesday, 6 April (doors open at 16.00 hrs).
