New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Strathan Music Limited) The Director of the music rights management company, Brian Reid says: "We are looking for beautiful music by independent artists who write and record their own songs to a professional standard. Any music we take on must be world-class and have the 'wow' factor. Truly great songs are like rare gems so to help us in our search we have decided to launch https://www.submitgreatmusic.com." If after reading the information on the website an artist wants to submit their music for consideration all they have to do is go to the Submit Your Music page, and send their 3 best tracks via the 'drop box'. Strathan says it aims to listen and respond to submissions within 2 to 4 weeks. Reid continues: "As a guide, the sort of music we would classify as being beautiful would be songs like 'Full of Grace' by Sarah McLachlan, 'You're Still Here' by Faith Hill and 'Prayer' by Secret Garden. Also ballads like 'If I Knew Then' by Lady Antebellum, 'Far Away' by Nickelback, and 'Mysterious Ways' by Bryan Adams. So the tempo and style of music can vary considerably and can range from classical-crossover to rock and Celtic-crossover to adult contemporary. It's important to note we are not looking for carbon copies or soundalikes of existing artists. The music must be totally original and have real emotion and/or power. "We only take on music that we like and believe in. Then we actively market the songs to relevant music users. This means we are in regular contact with production companies, trailer houses, advertising agencies and music supervisors. We also present suitable songs to established artists who might be interested in recording 'cover' versions and to record labels that are looking for material to place on albums. "As most artists know, music is not a get rich quick business", says Reid. "However, the odds of success can be greatly improved if you have amazing songs and someone who can get them to the right people at the right time. This is what we are aiming to do with the songs we represent." Wherever possible Strathan says it prefers to control both the composition and sound recording as this makes it far easier to license the copyrights for most types of use. Any net income it collects is split with the artist on a 50/50 basis. However it will consider taking a smaller share if the copyrights already have a track record of generating significant income. Agreements for the copyrights concerned are exclusive, for the world, and initially last for 5 years, but there is an option to end the agreement if no income has been generated after the first 3 years. Once the agreement ends the copyrights revert to the artist.
