NEW YORK (Atlantic announcement) - Atlantic recording group
Shinedown has been invited to support
Van Halen on their upcoming summer tour. The fast-rising hard rock combo will join the reunited superstars on the second leg of their eagerly anticipated trek, beginning in
Chicago on July 19th and 20th with a pair of dates at the United Center.
Shinedown will continue with
Van Halen through a two-night stand at Los Angeles' Staples Center on August 19th and 20th (see attached itinerary).
Shinedown's current single, "45," is shaping up as one of 2004's top rock hits. The track - found on the band's debut, "Leave A Whisper" - is currently climbing the charts at a number of formats, coming in this week at No 3 with-a-bullet at Mainstream Rock and No 3 at Active Rock outlets nationwide. In addition, the song's controversial companion video clip is scoring at Fuse, where it is currently in "Oven Fresh" rotation. ".45" follows Shinedown's first Top 5 Active Rock smash, "Fly From The Inside."
Fuelled by the success of ".45," "Leave A Whisper" has shot up to No 1 on SoundScan's "Alternative New Artists" chart. The album is also currently No 4 on Billboard's "Heatseekers" ranking of new and developing artists.
The Florida-based band - who recently offered an explosive performance of ".45" on NBC-TV's Late Night With Conan O'Brien - has shared the stage with a number of artists, including 3 Doors Down, Tantric, and Powerman 5000. Shinedown is: Brent Smith (vocals), Jasin Todd (guitars), Brad Stewart (bass) and Barry Kerch (drums).
The band is currently mixing headlining dates with such high-profile radio festivals as 93X's Riverfest '04 at Somerset, Wisconsin's Float-Rite Park Amphitheatre on Saturday, May 29th, and Rock 101's Skyshow 2004 at Arms Park in Manchester, New Hampshire on Sunday, May 30th.
In addition, Shinedown will return to their hometown of Jacksonville on Sunday, May 23rd for Planet Radio 93.3's Fast, Furious & Duct Tape. The unique event at Jax Raceways combines an auto show, drag racing, bikini contests, and live rock 'n' roll, with Shinedown headlining the day's festivities. Finally, the band will get ready for the Van Halen trek by headlining the Mountain Dew Rock Stage at Milwaukee's annual Summerfest on Saturday, July 3rd.
With "Leav A Whisper," Shinedown has delivered one of the most impressive debuts in recent rock history. Produced by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Saliva, Ill Niño), the album sees the Jacksonville, Florida-based quartet concocting an intoxicating musical brew of metallic mayhem and muscular melodies, highlighted by the blues-infused vocal potency of singer Brent Smith. Tracks such as "Fly From The Inside" and the darkly poignant "Better Version" show a genuinely modern band crafting heavy music that stands apart from today's cookie-cutter rock practitioners.
