Both podcasts feature coverage of Pioneers For A Cure's Songs To Fight Cancer Gala concert in Tel Aviv in February 2011, which featured over a dozen artists singing pioneer songs to raise crucial funds for the cancer research charities they selected. The evening was an extension of 'The
Israel Sessions,' featuring 15 songs recorded in
Israel by producer Greg Wall and engineer Dave Richards in August, 2009. Israeli artists include Shai Gabso, Nurit Galron, Yehoram Gaon, Ilanit, Avi Toledano and Dudu Zakai. Bassam Beroumi, a Palastinian singer living in Israel, reflects on the essence of the project, "We are fighting one enemy. We are not fighting each other. We are fighting cancer."
Pioneers For A Cure - Songs To Fight Cancer is the largest showcase of cancer charities on the web. Called '[A] stellar model of artist-driven grassroots philanthropy' by
National Geographic, the non-profit project records public domain songs, reinterpreted and made available for donations of as little as $1.99. This treasure trove of over 100 songs has been recorded by dozens of artists from around the world including Suzanne Vega, Ben E. King, Tom Chapin, Tom Verlaine, Matt White and
David Broza. Proceeds from song downloads are donated to artist-selected cancer research charities such as the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Susan G. Koman for the Cure.
