Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ Cinemedia Promotions) Lakeshore Records will release the Spy Kids: All The Time in the World in 4D - Original Motion Picture
Soundtrack available digitally on August 16th and on CD on
September 6, 2011. The soundtrack features original music by Carl Thiel (Machete, Grindhouse: Planet Terror) and Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Grindhouse: Planet Terror).
While a student at the University of Texas at Austin in 1991, Robert Rodriguez wrote the script to his first feature film. The film, El Mariachi, went on to win the coveted Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and became the lowest budget movie ever released by a major studio. Rodriguez wrote about these experiences in Rebel Without a Crew, a perennial guide for the independent filmmaker. Rodriguez went on to write, produce, direct and edit a series of successful films including Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty, the Spy Kids franchise, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Frank Miller's Sin City, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D, Grindhouse and Shorts. Rodriguez has recently released the successful re-launch of the Predator franchise with 2010's release of Predators for 20th Century Fox as well as the spin-off action flick, Machete, based on the hard-edged "fake" trailer featured in Grindhouse.
Carl Thiel is an award winning music composer/producer who's work on major feature films include Miss Congeniality, Shorts, Machete, Kill Bill 2, Grindhouse - Planet Terror, Hot Fuzz, Sin City, Before The Music Dies, El Cantante, The Adventures of Sharkboy & Lavagirl, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Spy Kids 2 & 3, and many more. He continues to score the critically acclaimed children's educational video series The Trevor Romain Show, seen on PBS. Carl has also collaborated with countless national & international artists, including Willie Nelson, Bob Schneider, Los Lonely Boys, Joe Ely, Stephen Bruton, Robert Rodriguez's Chingon, and in 2007 he received a Latin Grammy nomination for his work on the album "Papito" by Spanish pop legend Miguel Bose.
On the surface, Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba) has it all...married to a famous spy hunting television reporter, a new baby and intelligent twin step kids. But in reality, trying to mother Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), who clearly don't want her around, is her toughest challenge yet. Also, her husband, Wilbur (Joel McHale), wouldn't know a spy if he lived with one which is exactly the case - Marissa's a retired secret agent.
Marissa's world is turned upside down when the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet and she's called back into action by the head of OSS, home of the greatest spies and where the now-defunct Spy Kids division was created. With a little help from a couple of very familiar Spy Kids, Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara), they just may be able to save the world and possibly bring their family together while they're at it.
"When it came time for this Spy Kids film, I not only relied on some of the themes from the first films, but leaned heavily on my long time collaborator and producer of my scores and rock albums, Carl Thiel," said Rodriguez.
"Robert and I wanted to keep some of his original Spy Kids melodies in this score, but also infuse the movie with a new life, since there were so many new characters, including the kids," said Thiel.
"Both of us are very theme oriented, so when we sat down to spot the movie, we made a list of the characters that needed their own theme... like the Timekeeper, the kids, Joel McHale's 'Spy Hunter' and Jessica Alba's 'Spy Mom'," Thiel described. He wrote up sketches of possible themes and showed them to Rodriguez. "We chose the ones that felt like the best fit. Once we had that as a base, I could draw from the pool of melodic themes to score each specific scene."
"There's practically wall to wall music," added Thiel. "As challenging as it was, working on Spy Kids 4 has been the most fun I've had writing music for a film."
"Ten years after Spy Kids, we are back," said Rodriguez, "and it has been as much a musical journey as a cinematic one."
