Richard Gere Talks To Guitar Aficionado About His Rare Guitar Collection
NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Future U.S.) In the September/October 2011 issue of Guitar Aficionado, actor Richard Gere reveals that he has been quietly collecting rare guitars for many years. Over 100 instruments from his collection will be auctioned at Christie's New York on October 11th. The proceeds from the auction will help build schools, clinics, and hospitals in needy areas of the world.

In speaking to Guitar Aficionado, the very private Gere - famous for his roles in Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman, and Chicago - opens up about following in his father's footsteps as a trumpet player. He also speaks about his love of rock and roll and, especially, the music of Bob Dylan. Gere's heartfelt recollections of how he acquired some of his favorite guitars reveal just how much of a sacrifice it is for him to part with this collection. But he says, "We just built a school in the Himalayas for 600 kids for $85,000. Just imagine all we'll be able to build there with the money raised by these guitars. These guitars will change people's lives, so I'm happy to pass them on."
