Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts / BFM Digital) Prolific composer
Andrea Saparoff's debut release "Equivalents" will be available digitally on iTunes August 23rd. Already top-of-mind as an accomplished composer of music for films, television and advertising, Saparoff presents 15 original, instrumental soundscapes that showcase her incredible ability to evoke vivid images and powerful emotions. Using layers of sound and unconventional samples, the classically-trained Saparoff creates a wide range of captivating moods and images in a decidedly filmic style.
The title track Equivalents opens with the unmistakable sounds of marimbas and kalimbas. As the track gains momentum, Saparoff incorporates oud, found percussion, prepared pianos, taiko drums and orchestral textures to create contrasts between minimalistic percussive elements and lyrical piano lines backed by strings. Saparoff evokes darker, more intense imagery with the track Flexing the Struts. She combines ebows, prepared guitars, dreamy boomerang pianos, buzzy gamelans and ghost bells with a rock drumbeat and the occasional touch of feedback to develop a mysteriously atmospheric groove. On the pensive track Bells of My Son, Saparoff weaves a soaring trumpet melody around a backdrop of gamelans, bowed pianos, harmonium and chaos bells that takes the listener on a haunting yet somehow hopeful emotional ride.
"Music can be both a visual and auditory medium, says Saparoff. "I've always been fascinated with weaving together organic sounds and textures and using unusual sampled sounds that you wouldn't necessarily think of as being musical - like washing machines and water coolers -- to evoke pictures in the listener's mind."
Saparoff has scored hundreds of commercial spots for advertisers such as EA, Nike, Nissan, and Cheerios, and she's composed movie and television soundtracks for all the major networks including ABC, NBC, CBS, Lifetime, and Hallmarkheat Channel.
