Peruvian rapper Immortal Technique, one of the most dynamic figures in hip-hop, is the subject of 'The (R)evolution Of Immortal Technique', a revealing documentary by Director Cary Stuart. The upcoming film, which shows Tech (born Felipe Coronel) to be as altruistic a person as he is relentless as a performer, will premiere on September 7th at The Harlem Film Festival. Viper Records artist Coronel has sold over 250,000 albums, has videos with over 7 million views on YouTube, and is long known as a no-holds-barred songwriter, a freestylist to be reckoned with and a social activist/commentator who pulls no punches. But "(R)evolution" shows a more benevolent side as well, and gets inside what Coronel does when he isn't on stage or in the studio. The film was shot from 2004 through 2011 in Afghanistan, Peru, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Amsterdam, France, Spain, London, Morocco, Columbia, Venezuela and elsewhere. Stuart's documentary serves as a three-dimensional portrait of an artist who has mined a life of hard knocks and hard work to reach what may very well be a breakthrough year in his promising career. The film also conveys the respect and camaraderie he has earned among his peers and other industry figures. In the documentary, hip-hop legend Chuck D says, "You symbolize the voice of truth all around the world in the name of rap music and hip hop." Other artists/cultural figures providing interviews with or about Tech range from Ice-T to Dr. Cornell West to KRS1 to Woody Harrelson and many others, including Ill Bill, Russell Means and Q-Unique.

Immortal Technique hopes his previous and future works will inspire other independent artists to be true to their unique vision. He stands as proof that one need not rely on the backing of a major label or fit a mold dictated by fad and marketability. One can, in fact, be independent and end up just as successful while maintaining the one theme prevalent in all of his music - freedom.
