Lil Wayne Is No 1; The Carter IV Sells 964,000 Its First Week!
NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ K&K Public Relations) Cash Money / Universal Republic Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum recording artist Lil Wayne's tenth studio album THA CARTER IV is No 1 on Neilsen Soundscan Chart, as the album reaches the top spot with first week sales of 964,000. Lil Wayne also sold nearly 1 million standalone tracks digitally his first week of release. Further illuminating the album's power as a whole, the deluxe edition of THA CARTER IV accounted for 95 percent of digital sales and over 70 percent of physical sales.

Lil Wayne continued to shatter records this week too. He is now the best selling artist on iTunes with first week sales of 348,000 units sold in only four days. Lil Wayne breaks a record set only two weeks before by Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch The Throne, a title held previously by Coldplay.

In an industry first, THA CARTER IV became available on iTunes after Lil Wayne's monumental performance on the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28th. The album immediately soared to No 1 on iTunes, dethroning Jay-Z, Kanye West and Adele and surpassing new releases from Red Hot Chili Peppers and David Guetta.

The momentum surrounding THA CARTER IV has escalated as Lil Wayne's second single 'How To Love' holds the No 1 position on Mediabase and BDS Urban charts. The third single from the album, 'She Will,' featuring Drake debuted at No 1 on the iTunes Single Chart the first day it was available for download and reached No 1 on both iTunes Main and Hip-Hop/Rap charts.

THE CARTER IV is a continuum of Lil Wayne's dominance, having sold nearly as many albums as Tha Carter III in a considerably weaker physical market and less retail outlets. To date, Lil Wayne has sold more than 10 million records in a single decade, and that number is rising daily.

The New Orleans native who hails from the streets of Hollygrove released his first tracks at age 12 after he was introduced to Cash Money CEOs Ronald 'Slim' Williams and Bryan 'Birdman' Williams. Lil Wayne released the first installment of Tha Carter series in 2004, which added to his impressive collection of platinum plaques, followed by Tha Carter II in 2006, which cemented his status as one of the best MCs in the hip hop game. But it was 2008's critically acclaimed Tha Carter III that gave Lil Wayne his iconic stature in popular music, paving the way for his advisory role to grow as CEO of Young Money Records. The album also made him a four-time Grammy Award winner, cementing his place in history as a true musical legend.
