Junkstar Burst On To International Music Scene
London, UK (Top40 Charts/ Junkstar Official Website) Word has been spreading fast about Junkstar, the UK's hottest new alternative pop band, whose new EP single, "Kicking K'/ "Girls Like Him", reached the No 2 spot on Amazon's New & Future Music chart in August. The three-song EP released August 15th on Genepool / Universal Records, sat near the top spot with the likes of Evanescence and Paul Weller, and other established stars.

Junkstar has adopted a concentrated campaign using email and social networking to promote the song. "The first week it was at number 27,000-and-something, we didn't even think it would make the Top 100 let alone the Top 2 spot. It's quite surreal," says keyboard player, Anna Rienoso, who formed the band in 2009, with singer/guitarist JC Connington.

"It was only a matter of about three days - and things just started going viral for us," says guitarist Emy Santoro, who wrote the B-side 'Girls Like Him' (also in the Top 10 on Amazon's New Releases and Rock charts, respectively).

"Kicking K," which has started seeing brisk sales at iTUNES, is an example of how today's low-cost technology can yield world class recordings on an indie-band budget. Recorded in less than two days on a budget of under $900, "Kicking K," has been described by Q magazine as: "a glorious racket (of) muscular pop power."

Following the success of the release, the band, who have previously played support shows with The Drums, Kate Nash, and Athlete, are now in talks with larger record labels and hope to secure a record deal on the back of the single's success.

Junkstar has also announced a series of UK dates and a short tour of Italy, which begins in October. For all details, please visit: www.junkstar.com. The group resumes work on its full-length CD next week, which will feature its two newest members: drummer Simon Hartop and bassist Katy Z.
