Jacksonville, Fl. (Florida Heroes Awards announcement) - Lynyrd Skynyrd will be honored by The Florida Chapter of the Recording Academy Sunday, June 6 at the 2004 Florida Heroes Awards in Coral Gables, Florida. The Florida Heroes Awards will pay tribute to the Jacksonville-formed group for their great accomplishments in music. The much-storied American band - who have sold over 25 million albums - celebrated their thirtieth anniversary last year.

The event takes place two weeks before the June 22 release of their new 'Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve' double live album on Sanctuary Records. The powerful disc features 19 songs from the band's triumphant show before 17,000 heartland fans last year at the AmSouth Amphitheatre in Nashville. Highlights include the addition of a string section on such classics as "Tuesday's Gone," "The Way" and "Free Bird," plus a horn section on several tracks, including "What's Your Name" and "Call Me The Breeze."

Always a major live attraction, Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals), Billy Powell (keyboard), Rickey Medlocke (guitar), Hughie Thomasson (guitar), Michael Cartellone (drums), Ean Evans (bass) - have added more "Vicious Cycle Tour" dates, confirming U.S. stops through mid-September.
Meanwhile, the band's sold-out May 26 concert at Vienna, Virginia's historic Filene Center at Wolf Trap shattered the 33-year-old amphitheatre's records for merchandise and concession sales.
