LOS ANGELES (Grammy Official Website) - Governors Award honorees include Oscar-winning film composer Elmer Bernstein, six-time GRAMMY Award-winning R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire, and three-time GRAMMY-winning producing duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. President/Chairman of the Board of ASCAP Marilyn Bergman, 27-time GRAMMY winner Quincy Jones, and GRAMMY-winning producer Raphael Saadiq will present awards.
Recording Academy President Neil Portnow and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Daniel Carlin will attend, along with Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Brown, GRAMMY-winning producer David Foster, producers Ivan Barias and Carvin Haggins, film composer Lalo Schifrin, President of A&M Records Ron Fair, industry executive Clarence Avant, and GRAMMY-winning group Chicago.
The ceremony will be held at Beverly Hills, CA (Tuesday, June 8th).

2004 Los Angeles Chapter Scholarship recipients include Gary Fukushima (California Institute of the Arts), Adam Benjamin (California Institute of the Arts), Brandon Jones (Peppderine University), Jonathan Timpe (California State University, Northridge), Laurie "Desiree" Covarrubias (Los Angeles Recording Workshop), and Jimmy Red Elk (Los Angeles Recording Workshop).

The Los Angeles Chapter of the Recording Academy will present its Governors Awards at the 2004 Membership Awards Luncheon (Tuesday, June 8, 2004). The Governors Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Los Angeles Chapter and is presented each year to Recording Academy members who have been recognized as an invaluable asset to the music community.

Recipients of the Governors Award are selected in acknowledgment of the excellence and integrity embodied in their work, as well as their willingness to support and participate in programs benefiting the music community.

Many of the Chapter's ongoing programs, including the Membership Awards Luncheon, raise funds to support the Los Angeles Chapter Scholarship Program. This program provides financial assistance to qualified local music students whose focus and ultimate goal are to work in the music industry.
