NEW YORK (Creed Official/Fans Website) - The members of Creed have decided to split up after eight years as a top selling rock band, it was reported Friday. After 8 years and 3 albums together - My Own Prison, Human Clay, and Weathered - not to mention worldwide sales in excess of 30 million albums, Scott Stapp, Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips, and Brett Hestla have collectively called it quits.

Creed songwriter/ guitarist Mark Tremonti has decided to join forces with drummer Phillips, original bassist Brian Marshall and former Mayfield Four singer/ songwriter Myles Kennedy. The quartet's new band, which is named Alter Bridge, will release their debut album on Wind-up Records on August 10th 2004. In the interim, they are expected to do a short promotional acoustic tour of radio stations this Summer, followed by a worldwide tour to begin in late August or early September.

Scott Stapp, he has been busy in the studio writing and recording over the past several months. His first post-Creed recording will be featured on an allstar tribute album featuring compositions inspired by the film The Passion of the Christ. The compilation will also be released by Wind-up and will hit the streets on August 31st. Stapp is also working with producer 7 Aurelius, and has joined forces with Canadian rockers The Tea Party to work on his in-the-works solo debut.

While the break-up will no doubt leave many fans thunderstruck, they can rest assured in the knowledge that Wind-up Records will be releasing a Creed 'Greatest Hits' compilation later this year. Details will be made available as plans for the album take shape.
