T-Bone Burnett, Decemberists Talk Chieftains' 50th
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) The Chieftains are joined by an incredible constellation of young artists on their new album Voice of Ages (Feb 21, Hear/Concord), including Bon Iver, Carolina Chocolate Drops and more. Below, co-producer T Bone Burnett, Colin Meloy of the Decemberists and others discuss the experience.

Throughout all of these decades, Paddy and The Chieftains have maintained their artistic integrity and the joy of making those ancient sounds and calling up those ancient spirits. The fact that they are joined on this record by some of the brightest young talents in music is a testament to their importance and the timeless beauty of what they create.
- T Bone Burnett

It's not often you are called to collaborate with one of the world's foremost innovators and influencers in folk music -- or any music for that matter. Needless to say, we jumped at the chance. ˆ Colin Meloy, The Decemberists

When we were approached about the project, we jumped in with both feet. It was an honor to not only be a part of it, but to write a song specifically for it. ˆ The Civil Wars

[Our] track turned out exactly how we'd hoped it would: haunting and ethereal. Paddy's talent and kindness was the shining factor throughout, and he reaffirmed what we really believe about artists: that the most talented ones are also the most humble.
- Laura Rogers, The Secret Sisters

The collaborative album features a dazzling collection of like-minded musical visionaries and kindred spirits, and features The Chieftains teaming with stars from the worlds of indie-rock (Bon Iver, The Decemberists, The Low Anthem), country and Americana (The Civil Wars, Pistol Annies, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers), Irish and Scottish folk (Imelda May, Lisa Hannigan, Paolo Nutini) and more.

The Chieftains 2012 US tour will kick off in Santa Barbara, CA February 17 and will culminate with a special 50th Anniversary St. Patrick's Day show at New York's Carnegie Hall March 17.
