Jay-Z has been consistently topping the charts since his 1996 debut.
Grammy award winning and multi-platinum songwriter, artist and producer Rick
James will be presented with the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award for his innovative and influential style.
Rick
James is credited with establishing the "punk-funk" style and established himself as the ultimate funk hit-maker with such songs as "Super Freak," "Mary Jane", and "Give It To Me Baby" to name a few.

This year ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) will be hosting its 17th Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on Monday, June 28th, 2004, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Awards will be presented to the songwriters and publishers of the most performed ASCAP songs of the past year's R&B/Hip-Hop, Rap and Reggae music season.
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the ASCAP Golden Note Award to Jay-Z and the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award to Rick James.
The 17th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards will be held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills (California), on Monday, June 28, 2004, @ 6:30 PM
