LOS ANGEELS (ASCAP, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) - Grammy Award winner Jay-Z is being honored with ASCAP's prestigious Golden Note Award for his groundbreaking achievements as a songwriter and artist. Jay-Z has been consistently topping the charts since his 1996 debut.
Grammy award winning and multi-platinum songwriter, artist and producer Rick James will be presented with the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award for his innovative and influential style.
Rick James is credited with establishing the "punk-funk" style and established himself as the ultimate funk hit-maker with such songs as "Super Freak," "Mary Jane", and "Give It To Me Baby" to name a few.

Confirmed attendees will be 50 Cent, Zyah Ahmonuel, Erykah Badu, Ivan Barias, Osbourne Gould Bingham, Jr., Jayson "Koko" Bridges, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, Mr. Cheeks, Bootsey Collins, Michael Elizondo, Jr., John "J-Praize" Freeman, Andre Harris, Lalah Hathaway, Rick James, Kindred, Kenny Lattimore, Cynthia "Lil Mo" Loving, Harvey Mason, Jr., Chante Moore, Musiq, Brandon "Birdman" Parrott, Timothy Patterson, Frank Romano, Raphael Saadiq, Damon Thomas, Truth Hurts, Kanye West, Dwayne Wiggins, among others.

This year ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) will be hosting its 17th Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on Monday, June 28th, 2004, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Awards will be presented to the songwriters and publishers of the most performed ASCAP songs of the past year's R&B/Hip-Hop, Rap and Reggae music season.

A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the ASCAP Golden Note Award to Jay-Z and the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award to Rick James.
The 17th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards will be held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills (California), on Monday, June 28, 2004, @ 6:30 PM
