War Horse Cast Album
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) MASTERWORKS BROADWAY will release music from the stage version of War Horse, winner of five Tony Awards including Best Play, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. The album contains original music and songs from the acclaimed National Theatre of Great Britain production, which continues its sold out run on Broadway while planning a U.S. tour and Toronto engagement for 2012.

"In its blending of modern and traditional storytelling, its poetic imagery and primal emotion, this is the kind of magical theatre event that comes along only rarely." - Hollywood Reporter

The War Horse album features a full orchestra and is comprised of music by British composer Adrian Sutton, whose contribution was described by The Sunday Express as "...gorgeously atmospheric...". The music forms an integral part of the performance, with some of the musicians appearing as characters on stage and also features songs by celebrated British folk singer and musician, John Tams. "War Horse couldn't work without its extraordinary musical score," says Tom Morris, Director of the National Theatre.

This spectacular, emotional drama is based on the celebrated novel by the former Children's Laureate and award-winning author, Michael Morpurgo, adapted by Nick Stafford. Set against the backdrop of the First World War, it deals with such universal themes as friendship, loyalty and bravery through the exploration of the extraordinary bond between a young recruit and his horse. Told through the eyes of Joey, a farm horse from Devon - created and handled on stage by the Handspring Puppet Company - audiences follow his fortunes as he struggles to survive the nightmare of war. This much-loved equine story was made into a major motion picture film by Steven Spielberg, opening nationwide on December 25, 2011.
