PHOENIX, AZ (Aezra/EMI Records) - Magna-Fi, Aezra Records Las-Vegas-based quartet of alternative hard-rockers, is primed for the release of their debut album, Burn Out The Stars, on June 15.
A tour de force of ten original tracks, the disc - produced by Paul Lani (Megadeth, Failure) - shows off Magna-Fi's commanding songwriting, agile vocal interplay, and memorable, muscular hooks as much as it drives home the undeniable raw power of their musicianship.
"Where Did We Go Wrong" is Burn Out The Stars' lead single, and after scaling the heights on R&R's Active Rock and Alternative charts, and FMQB's specialty chart, has just debuted at #35 Active Rock in Billboard Monitor. A dense hard rocker with keen pop sensibilities, it's a potent cut that proves that whatever Magna-Fi felt went amiss in the past, they're clearly on track now. The song, in fact, prompted Disney Music Publishing's Noah Dewey to comment, "Best rock band I've seen in a long time. 'Where Did We Go Wrong' makes me wanna knock over a liquor store!"
It's just one of many standouts on the debut disc, which Mike Szuter calls "an album born out of frustration - be it with lovers, the music business, or life in general," hence its "knock over"-inspiring power. "Down In It" is a high-octane, alt-metal wall of sound underscoring the heavy side of Magna-Fi, while "Beautiful" is an insistent, alternative pop knockout with a fat chorus that smacks of the Szuter brothers' formative passion for Cheap Trick when they were kids in Cleveland, dreaming of the rock 'n' roll spotlight.
"TV Killed Me" is an intoxicating, rhythmic track that pulls from both ends of the sonic spectrum, and "This Life" is a masterful, anthemic ballad with stadium-sized range and vocal emotion. As samdamonkey points out, "Burn Out The Stars' tracks scan the human perspective of moodiness and none feel out of place or from out of left field."
Recently, Magna-Fi has been busy on the road, opening dates for Fuel and gigging at the extreme sports world's major ASA Mobile Skatepark Series. As they anticipate the release of Burn Out The Stars, Magna-Fi is also preparing to unleash their material at their largest live forum ever when they climb aboard for this summer's 9th annual OzzFest, one of biggest and most successful tours of any genre. OzzFest kicks off July 10, and Magna-Fi will be part of a roster featuring a staggering who's who of hard rock and heavy metal, including Ozzy himself.
