New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Kinky Friedman Official Website) America's Jewish Troubadour, Kinky Friedman, is going south in 2012, specifically the southern United States. The Kinkster, whose solo performance is best described as Mark Twain meets Groucho Marx...at the corner of
Johnny Cash and Lenny Bruce, just wrapped up a highly anticipated new book with Billy Bob Thornton titled The Billy Bob Tapes and he has started writing one with Willie Nelson. The Southern Discomfort Tour will begin in
Texas and then swing through the Deep South, often to places Kinky's never been...heads-up, Dixieland!
As a very special added bonus, the hilarious and multi-talented singer-songwriter, Kacey Jones, will open nine dates on the second half of the tour, starting in Lafayette. Best known for her comedic-country trio Ethel and The Shameless Hussies (MCA), Kacey has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, Woodsongs, The Bob and Tom Show, GAC, CMT and many other programs. As The Official Songstress of The Sweet Potato Queens, an organization with 75,000 members, born out of a half dozen best-selling Sweet Potato
Queen books by Jill Conner Browne...Kacey Jones knows her way around the South.
Friedman and Jones first met in the late 80's when Ethel and The Shameless Hussies opened a show for The Kinkster in Washington, D.C. Ten years later, the two paired up again to create the chart-topping Americana album, "Pearls in the Snow, The Songs of Kinky Friedman," featuring Kinky's songs, Kacey's production work, and stellar performances by Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Dwight Yoakam, Tom Waits, Delbert McClinton, Guy Clark, Asleep At The Wheel, Marty Stuart, and other legends.
Kinky will sing all the tunes for which he is famed, including "They Ain't Makin Jews Like Jesus Anymore" and "Get Your Biscuits In The Oven and Your Buns in The Bed" and will give a book reading. An official signing party will follow each show. Kinky will also be bringing his new "Kinky Friedman's Man in
Black Tequila" honoring Zorro, Paladin, and Johnny Cash, "positively guaranteed to bring out one's inner Kinky." Miss Jones will sing all the tunes for which she is "infamous" including "Every Man I Love is Either Married, Gay or Dead" and "Show Up Naked, Bring Beer." The two artists will also perform the duet they recorded on the "Pearls in the Snow" album entitled, "Marilyn and Joe. The track was released to radio this week on CDX Volume 538 and is available to AirPlay Direct
