NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - It isn't only the cancellation of Lollapalooza.
Christina Aguilera scrapped her 28-city summer concert tour, citing strained vocal cords.
Madonna cut dates and goes only in the big cities. Also,
Britney Spears checked out of the Onyx Hotel tour prematurely, due to... a bum knee.
The concerts/live industry is suffering this summer and the artists/performers are using "marketing" ways now - not to tell the truth about the fail of their concert-series.
The most common excuse: "Oh, I have hurt! - my leg (Britney), my stromach (Madonna), my vocal (Christina)... "
The phenomenon is calling "poor sales tickets," but the virtual reality of tour promoters is extending it more and more: last night another pop star, Jessica Simpson, joined the diva disabled list, canceling her Providence, R.I., show because of a kidney infection just two hours before she was set to take the stage.
Simpson was said to be under a doctor's care, but planned to resume her tour in New Hampshire tonight, said Columbia Records spokesman Renee Pfefer.
As of last night, Simpson's promoters were on the phone with personnel at Manchester's Verizon Wireless Arena, assuring them that tonight's scheduled show will go on.
Simpson, 23, star of MTV's reality show 'Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica,' was scheduled to perform to a nearly sold-out audience last night. The appearance was part of Simpson's summer Reality Tour promoting her latest album, 'In This Skin.'
Providence fans were advised to keep their tickets, as organizers hope to reschedule the performance as soon as possible, said Heidi Kutsch, a spokesman for Clear Channel Communications, which is promoting the concert.
