NEW YORK (Irie Jamboree Festival announcement) - The count down has started in preparation for Irie Jamboree 2k4, the premier reggae festival in North America. The main event will be held at Roy Wilkins Park, Queens, New York on Sunday August 22, 2004.

The highly anticipated concert will present a fabulous line up of reggae, dancehall and old school superstars including top cultural singer, Luciano, lovers? rock crooner Barrington Levy, Freddie McGregor, Bounty Killer, TOK, Cobra, Tanya Stephens, Richie Spice, Richie Stephens, Frankie Paul among others. The promoters are currently negotiating with other headline acts and some veteran stars to add luster to the growing roster. The mix of reggae, rock and dancehall music is in keeping with the trend established last year to combine different genres of music. The main event will feature no more than 25 performances, which should enable the production to be shorter and tighter.

The promoters have also announced that they will unveil a new and exciting look for the event this year. Without disclosing too much information, head honchos Bobby Clarke and Steven Williams, disclosed that Irie Jamboree 2k4 will be spread over four consecutive days - something which has never been attempted by a reggae concert promoter here in New York.
"We are still ironing out the details but we plan to incorporate other facets of our burgeoning Caribbean culture into a 4-day festival. This will give it greater appeal and possibly revolutionize how Caribbean events are produced here in the US. It could serve as a blueprint for future Caribbean festivals that are staged here" Clarke surmised.

Last year's Irie Jamboree featured reggae stars Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder, Baby Cham, Cecile, Cobra, Mr. Vegas, TOK alongside hip-hop legends KRS1, Doug E Fresh and Big Daddy Kane. The event was top notch in every way - from performances and production values to the easy access patrons had entering the venue.
This year's festival promises to be even better.
