Beasties 'Ch-Check In' at No. 1

NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - The Beastie Boys opened number 1 on the Billboard US Album Chart. The Boys sold 360,000 copies of 'To the 5 Boroughs' which is a bit of a disappointment. Music insiders were expecting the new album by the Beastie Boys, their first in six years, to sell more than 500,000 copies its first week out.

The Beastie Boys' last album, 'Hello Nasty', sold 682,000 copies by comparison, and went on to sell almost 4 million copies to date. Still, Boroughs did best 1994's Ill Communication, which sold 220,000 copies in its chart-topping berth.
The Beastie Boys still have a solid opening to grow from so next weeks numbers will give a better indicter of 'To the 5 Boroughs' selling capabilities.
In any case it is good to have the Boys back no matter what they sell, with today's popular music scene the way it is we need them more now then ever.

Something to notice: Beyonce's solo debut, Dangerously in Love, celebrated its one-year anniversary on the charts at No 174.
Other noteworthy debuts for this week's chart: Seether - Disclaimer II (No 53), Killers - Hot Fuss (No 59), Various - Reggae Gold 2004 (No 64), Pillar - Where Do We Go From Here (No 74), The Very Best of ZZ Top (No 77), Fleetwood Mac - Live in Boston (No 84) and Soundtrack- 50 First Dates (No 85).
