Brett McConnell for a debut EP release concert, Saturday April 21, 9 p.m. at The Blue Monk, 3341 SW Belmont in Portland. Tasha will perform her West Coast Songwriters award winning song "Not Me." Tasha Flynn Band's music is a perfect alchemy of jazz, rock and funk, wielding a percussive bite and passionate vocals sexy Tasha delivers with the skill of a seasoned hypnotist. The Excellent Gentlemen will end the celebration with the contagious dance energy they're renowned for.
Originally from Carmarthen Wales, Tasha Flynn is a singer songwriter and pianist quickly emerging on the Portland scene with her gutsy jazz infused soul-rock. A composer since age ten, Tasha is drawn to extended harmonies of jazz and driving syncopated rhythms of rock 'n roll. Although she's a newcomer on the scene, Tasha takes command of the microphone with passionate emotion found only in seasoned soul singers.
Tasha graduated from Portland
State University with a Graduate Degree in
Music Ed in 2010. Her knowledge of arranging and background in classical/jazz piano merge with a range of influences as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Nancy Wilson, and Prince.
Jeff Horton, veteran guitarist, songwriter and producer is an integral part of the Tasha Flynn Band. He was the founder and lead guitarist for the highly successful band, Wild Dogs. Jeff has toured and shared the stage with some of the top rock musicians in the business including Metallica, Quiet Riot, Dio, Rising Force, Raven and Slayer. He was signed by Capitol Records. Jeff wrote for MCA records and Atlantic. He operates Powerhouse Studios in Portland.
Kyle Owen, the talented drummer for the Tasha Flynn Band, has served two internships with the Portland Jazz Festival, and graduated from Portland
State with a degree in music specializing in jazz studies.
Brett McConnell, a new addition to the band, brings a wide range of experience performing around Portland, most recently with ten piece dance party, Philly's Phunkestra.
Brett is also a graduate of Portland State's music department.
The Tasha Flynn Band will perform all of the cuts from the new EP at the concert.
