Aaron Comess Featured In Modern Drummer, Relix; Sets Tour Dates With Joan Osborne For Spring, Also Appears On New James Maddox Release, Upcoming Edie Brickell Album 'More...'
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Aaron Comess Official Website) Aaron Comess Featured in Modern Drummer, Relix; Sets Tour Dates with Joan Osborne for Spring, also Appears on New James Maddox Release, Upcoming Edie Brickell Album, More…

Drummer/guitarist/composer/producer Aaron Comess won wide acclaim for his powerful 2011 solo CD, 'Beautiful Mistake'. For Comess, who wrote and produced the album, 'Beautiful Mistake' marked an opportunity to step out of the shadows of his many notable collaborative efforts, and into the spotlight. Substantial press coverage followed, most recently a multi-page feature in the 1/12 issue of Modern Drummer Magazine, and a rave review in Relix Magazine - see below.

2012 sees Comess wearing many hats: He will soon hit the road for a Spring tour with Joan Osborne, in support of her March 27th blues covers CD 'Bring it on Home,' on which Comess also performs; Comess is featured on the new James Maddox single and video 'My Old Neighborhood,' a current hit at AAA radio and available for purchase via iTunes; he recently returned from a tour of Europe with Spin Doctors (Comess is a founding member of the band - more on that, below) and confirms that the band will be going in the studio this Spring to record an album of all original blues songs. Spin Doctors will be announcing additional Summer dates, soon; Comess will appear on a new Edie Brickell album, to be released later this year; he will be part of a Fall arena tour with German superstar Marius Westerhagen. Comess will also perform with his own band at Rockwood Stage One in NYC on March 18 and April 22, and at Stage Two on May 24.

RELIX MAGAZINE - CD REVIEW 12/11 By Fady Khalil
https://www.relix.com/reviews/cds/2011/12/06/aaron-comess-beautiful-mistake

Nevermind his role as the drummer of the multi-platinum selling Spin Doctors, Aaron Comess has something of his own to say—just not with any words. On his latest solo release, Beautiful Mistake, Comess returns with another set of jammy instrumentals that prove to be every bit as catchy as a traditional pop song. Comess' spellbinding melodies—which soar high in his capable hands with the help of bandmates Teddy Kumpel (guitar) and Richard Hammond (bass)—are fine replacements for traditional lyrics. Swaying from ebullient joyrides ("Beautiful Mistake," "Stinky") to songs that are low, dirty and fit to soundtrack a backroom brawl ("Dirt," "High Five"), Comess and crew come off like a superjam between Derek Trucks and the Benevento-Russo Duo. With multifaceted, emotive instrumentals, Beautiful Mistake should find an eager audience among jam fans.

Aaron Comess:
Drummer/guitarist/composer/producer Aaron Comess won wide acclaim for his powerful 2011 solo CD, 'Beautiful Mistake'. Veteran writer Jack Goodstein praised via BLOGCRITICS, "This may be instrumental rock at its base, but if it is, it clearly demonstrates the creative variety skilled musicians can build on that base." Other critics described the music as "engagingly dramatic, wildly entertaining," as having "a complicated, concurrent brilliance," and focused on specific tracks as building "in intensity and style, adding funk and volume until it's ready to blow out the top." The track "Past, Present and Future"…quite literally, comes crashing down in a heap of feedback, cymbal bashing and shuddering reverb. It's one of the loudest, best things on a very interesting record."

Comess deftly created sweeping songs that were emotive without words, leaving his commanding drum work and the 'voice' of his band's electric guitar (Teddy Kumpel) and bass (Richard Hammond) to weave a dramatic soundscape. Comess is the drummer and a founding member of the multi-platinum-selling SPIN DOCTORS, and the band recently celebrated the 20th Anniversary of their smash CD 'Pocket Full of Kryptonite' with a double-CD release and world tour that generated huge press coverage. As mentioned above, Comess has also completed work on Joan Osborne's new CD, as well as Edie Brickell's -- He is a musician's musician, long respected as a collaborator who has played on, co-written and/or produced over two hundred albums with an acclaimed and diverse roster of artists including Osborne, Isaac Hayes, Marc Cohn, Bilal, Rachael Yamagata, James Maddock and more. In addition to the Brickell CD, other upcoming and/or recent work includes Phil Ramone, Andrea Bocelli, David Foster, Malcolm Burn and Natasha Bedingfield. Comess is active in the local NYC rock, jazz, experimental music scenes and singer songwriter circuits, and records and produces at his 'His House Studio' in the East Village. As a member of the band New York Electric Piano, Comess had a Top 10 CD on the CMJ charts. Comess has successfully navigated the tricky music industry for over 20 years, managing to keep his original band (Spin Doctors) together, build an active career as a sideman/session player/producer, and make his own records as a composer/leader. With 'Beautiful Mistake', he shines as a songwriter and continues to distinguish himself. Visit Comess' eclectic Discography to get a sense of the wide range of projects he's been involved with over the years, from Chris Whitley's final album to Joan Osborne's 'Righteous Love' to a dozen releases as a member of Spin Doctors:
