Alfred Music Publishing Congratulates Winners Of Modern Drummer 2012 Readers' Poll
Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ Alfred Music Publishing) Alfred Music Publishing, the world leader in educational print music publishing since 1922 and home to the world's largest percussion print catalog, congratulates the winners of the Modern Drummer 2012 Readers' Poll, including esteemed Alfred authors Ari Hoenig, Florian Alexandru-Zorn, and Billy Martin.

Modern Drummer magazine asked their readers to vote for their favorite drummers across a wide variety of categories and genres, and they did—in huge numbers. This year, dozens of drummers who publish instructional books and DVDs with Alfred Music Publishing were represented in nearly every category area by the voting public.

In the "Educational Book" category, solo artist, clinician, and author Ari Hoenig was among the winners for his critically acclaimed book SYSTEMS, Book 1: Drumming Technique and Melodic Jazz Independence. The instructional resource imparts Hoenig's performance techniques which take aim at practice fatigue and performance plateaus with engaging exercises that foster coordination and inspire creativity on the drums. Recently, SYSTEMS received a "Four Stars" review from Modern Drummer magazine.

Performer, clinician, and author, Florian Alexandru-Zorn, was also one of the winners in the "Educational Book" category for his The Complete Guide to Playing Brushes release. Jazz drummer and clinician Steve Smith shares about the book and DVD set: "Florian has produced an up-to-date, modern text on the wonderful art of playing with brushes. The instruction is clear, concise, and helpful for drummers looking to expand their palette to include the expressive world of brush playing. "The comprehensive book and DVD set eliminate the guesswork of brush movements and clearly show all the facets of playing. Earlier this year, Modern Drummer proclaimed: "Setting the bar for one-stop brush manuals, The Complete Guide to Playing Brushes aims to set your arms free. Five Stars!"

In the "Educational DVD" category, renowned percussionist and educator Billy Martin was among the winners for his award-winning music documentary DVD film, Life on Drums. The DVD film combines candid, wide-ranging conversations with Martin's first drum teacher, Allen Herman, and beautifully filmed performances of Martin's compositions for percussion ensemble and improvised trap set solos and duets. Life on Drums was recently awarded the "Silver Medal for Excellence in a Music Documentary" at the 2011 Park City Film Music Festival.
