Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ Davidjames Entertainment Management) Fans of the legendary power trio
Cream rejoiced earlier this year with the announcement of the first leg of Kofi Baker's
Cream Experience North American tour. Cities in the Midwest and East who missed the 1st leg can now see them for the second set of dates. Kofi Baker, following in the family tradition, displays a mastery of drum technique and groove that rivals that of his father, drum legend Ginger Baker. After seeing the historic
Cream reunion in 2005, Kofi was inspired to start his own band - he wanted to continue where Cream, and his father, left off. Kofi's band is the ultimate tribute to his father and godfather's bands,
Cream and
Blind Faith, and the musical wave and influence produced by them: combining
Cream &
Blind Faith's innovative and experimental style with virtuoso talent. The trio capture the mood and energy of the late '60s and early '70s; adding their own distinctive styles and in fact are preparing to record their own original material that will showcase and embrace what those bands brought to music world.
"My son, Kofi, he's playing amazingly," says legendary drummer Ginger Baker. "I was at the Frankfurt Fair (music trade show) a few years ago and one of the Zildjian people said to me, 'Man, have you heard your son play? He's amazing!' It's great to get feedback from people in the business on how well he's playing."
Featuring:
Kofi Baker - drums
Ric Fierabracci (Chick Corea, Frank Gambali) - bass, harmony vocals
Chris Shutters - guitar, vocals
Kofi's upcoming dates comes off the heels of his highly successful part 1 of the tour that took him from Cincinnati, the Midwest and into Colorado. Just prior to the start of the U.S. tour, Kofi and band had wrapped 2 weeks of European dates then a whirlwind trip to SXSW in Austin, TX where he was promoting the award winning documentary 'Beware of Mr. Baker', a film about his famous father Ginger Baker, which received the prestigious Grand Jury prize for its category. Kofi, at the age of six , first stage appearance was with his father when they performed together on the BBC TV show 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' in 1975. He was also interviewed for the 'Beware of Mr. Baker' documentary. Over the years Kofi Baker has become a well-respected drummer in his own right having toured with artists such as the legendary Steve Marriott of Humble Pie & The Faces, John Ethridge of Soft Machine and Steve Waller of Manfred Mann, as well as touring
Europe during the early '80s with his father playing drum duets of complex African polyrhythms. In the '90s Kofi teamed up with Jonas Hellborg and Shawn Lane to record the album 'Abstract Logic'. Along with working on a new solo album, Kofi in recent years has been recording and touring various other projects including the fusion band OHM, fronted by Chris Poland, former guitarist of Megadeth. Kofi has also recently become Head of the Drum Department at the Artisthead New
Music Academy.
