TORONTO, Canada (www.serenaryder.com) - For Serena Ryder, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Peterborough, 2004 has been a breakthrough year.
After touring with
Hawksley Workman in France and in Australia with Steve Earle, she's seen the release of her first nationally distributed CD, "Unlikely Emergency." Every single weekend this summer she's been booked on Canada's burgeoning roots music festival scene. So far, she's appeared at festivals in Canso, Nova Scotia,
Thunder Bay, Winnipeg and London, ON; coming up are events in Edmonton, Regina, and Owen Sound.
Now, to mark the release of "Unlikely Emergency" (on Workman's Isadora Records label, distributed by Universal and MapleMusic), she's playing two nights at Toronto's Rivoli on Wednesday, July 28 and Thursday, July 29. Toronto singer-songwriter Royal Wood will open for Ryder the first night; the special guest opener on July 29 will be announced shortly.
Preview footage of her upcoming video for her first single, "Just Another Day" will be shown. Ryder is currently featured as 'breakout artist' on the popular MapleMusic.com website, where two of her CD's and the Rivoli concert tickets may be purchased. And Serena has a unique new website (complete with chat room) at www.serenaryder.com.
