NEW YORK (Procter & Gamble) - Grammy award-winning country music legend Naomi Judd and senior representatives of Folgers(R) tomorrow join an array of elected officials on Ellis Island to celebrate the re-opening of the Statue of Liberty, which has been closed to the public since September 11, 2001. The singer joined forces with Folgers, America's #1 coffee brand*, in September 2003 for "The Future of Lady Liberty Is in Your Hands," a campaign to help The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. raise seven million dollars to fund improvements in the Statue's security system. Folgers is raising $1 million with the support of citizens across the country, who were invited to return the inner foil seals from new Folgers(R) AromaSeal(TM) Canisters. For every foil seal collected through September 1, 2004, Folgers donates $1.00 to The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. Additionally, consumers were able to make donations through https://www.folgers.com or by sending donations via mail. "As America's #1 coffee brand, Folgers was delighted to support the re-opening of America's foremost symbol of freedom, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to the tens of thousands of loyal consumers who generously responded to our call to action," said Max Rangel, Folgers marketing director. "I'm so proud to be associated with this campaign and to see so many Americans join together in support of such a worthy cause," said Judd. "For me, The Statue of Liberty has always been our most visible symbol of freedom and I'm excited to be among the first to re-visit this historic site."
