New Music: The Basic Release 'Ingredients' (Ft. Gotye/Wally De Backer)
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (Top40 Charts/ SGC Media) When The Basics formed in Melbourne, Australia a full decade ago, who could predict that today Tim Basic would be off working on film productions, Kris Basic would be in Kenya working as a Red Cross Aid worker and Wally Basic would be in LA as his alter-ego Gotye collecting Grammys for the world's highest selling song. The Basics is a ten-year story of mateship and adventures, but first and foremost, it's a vehicle for a legacy of amazing songs.

2013 sees the celebration of the decade with the release of two incredible collections:

INGREDIENTS is a sum of the many original parts that make up the sound of The Basics- a mix of the broad and bold sounds this band have created. There are songs from each of the albums and there are songs that fell in between. There is a taste of the band "live" - and if you have been lucky enough to have seen them live then you'd know just how special this band has been.

LEFTOVERS takes the best of what fans haven't already heard and serves it up as a mammoth 39-track digital collection or limited edition highlights vinyl. B-sides, demos and alternate versions from the cutting room floor provide a unique insight into the creative process. Leading with the new single "So Hard for You", Leftovers is The Basics in their rawest form. One-take vocals, discarded mixes and the raw power of their live prowess.

Ten years ago, The Basics formed and set about writing, arranging and recording their first set of original songs. Bassist Kris Schroeder & drummer Wally de Backer wore their influences on their sleeves, forming a songwriting partnership that became the backbone to all of The Basics repertoire.

The first collaborative works - recorded with their then guitarist Michael Hubbard eventuated in the debut album Get Back. With a tip of the hat to the great Brit pop style and sound of recording - this album and the energetic live performances The Basics presented something truly unique in the Australian music landscape. Uncompromising, determined and true.

The departure of Hubbard and the introduction of guitarist Tim Heath, helped crank up the energy and diversity of the bands' sound. The live shows became livelier and the new material that formed the second album showed The Basics determined adventurous spirit.

Stand Out/Fit In led with its chin. The title of the album a statement identifying the bands recognition that they might not 'fit in' with the current musical trends, but were determined to stand out regardless. The sense of fun they conveyed in their shows was well represented in the selection of songs, original and covered, that made up the album.

The word got out. Savvy music supervisors around the world picked up songs from the album. The Basics started popping up in episodes of popular TV series including Scrubs and Californication, TV commercials and feature films. But what eluded the band still was any substantial radio airplay.

"With This Ship" changed that. The song got the airplay it deserved and awareness of The Basics grew. Despite this the third album Keep Your Friends Close proved to be a difficult one for the band to get right and it took a lot longer than planned to arrive at the ultimate mix of songs. It was a mixed bag emotionally and stylistically, yet still displayed The Basics' trademark inventiveness and edgy creative spark. The ensuing years saw shows, a live album and various other wins for the band, however with each of the member's extra-curricular activities taking a front seat, The Basics announced a hiatus in 2010 with the impending release of Gotye's Making Mirrors album.

With the three Basics off doing separate things all over the world this is your choice. Take the essence of The Basics with the mix that is the INGREDIENTS or go deeper with LEFTOVERS. Either way it's a ride you won't want to miss.
