APRA Ambassador Gotye Makes Music History!
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ APRA) APRA Ambassador and current king of pop Wally de Backer, better known as Gotye, has made music history this afternoon, taking out Record of the Year Award for 'Somebody That I Used to Know' at today's Grammy Awards.

The first Australian to win the award since Olivia Newton-John in 1975, Gotye and pop partner Kimbra have made their mark at one of the world's most prestigious music awards, not only winning the coveted Record of the Year, but also taking out 'Best Pop Duo' and 'Best Alternative Music Album' for Wally's Making Mirrors.

"Wally is a fantastic songwriter who started his career in Melbourne's local live scene," said APRA|AMCOS CEO Brett Cottle. "To bridge the gap between community and commercial radio in Australia and come out on top of the world is an amazing achievement."

Since receiving a Professional Development Award from APRA in 2009, Wally has gone from strength to strength - taking out the 2012 APRA Song of the Year award for his worldwide smash hit 'Somebody That I Used to Know' featuring Kimbra.

APRA would like to congratulate Wally on his achievements to date.
