New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Tess Henley Official Website) Bursting onto the scene with horns a'blazin and a set of pipes that will not be denied, Seattle's Tess Henley reveals her new single and music video, From The Get Go
Taken from her forthcoming debut album High Heels & Sneakers, produced by The Roots' Dice Raw with additional production from Khari Mateen (The Roots, Jill Scott, J*DaVeY), the track gives a preview of great things to come from the emerging singer / pianist.
"Henley goes where her heart leads her, and her vocals and lyrics will have listeners wanting to follow." - Soul Tracks
"Remarkable maturity and focus draped in luscious harmonies; [Henley] is all about craftsmanship, commitment and true musicality." - Soul, Jazz & Funk
Having already opened for Jill Scott and Anthony Hamilton, Henley is no stranger to her genre (and a bit of an insider favorite). The Suzuki trained pianist (she began lessons at age 3) has also won multiple awards including 2011 Budweiser Dallas Superfest Contest $25,000 Grand Prize Winner, 2011 Soul Tracks International Song Competition Winner, an Independent Music Award for Best R&B Song and top three honors at the prestigious John Lennon 2011 International Songwriting Competition.
A powerful fusion of voice and vision, Henley wrote each song on the album from a place of personal experience. "From The Get Go was inspired by my own experience with a boyfriend who was a charmer with many red flags I chose to ignore," Tess explains. "I've seen so many of my friends go through similar situations with bad boyfriends/girlfriends. After it's over, you realize what you always knew - that this person was bad for you from the get go. I want fans to be able to relate to the song and remind them to trust their instincts."
