Radio announcement) - It was the 60's hit 'Rude Boy Gone A Jail' that put reggae crooner Freddy McGregor on the international map. Now more than four decades later, the reggae genius behind classics like "Big Ship," "Push Come To Shove," "Prophecy" and "Africa Here I Come" is still wooing fans globally.
Freddy along with Barrington Levy, Half Pint, Frankie Paul, Pinchers, Luciano, Bounty Killer, TOK, Cobra, Tanya Stephens, Richie Spice, Zin, Richie Stephens, KC Jockey, Cecile, Mr. Easy, Anthony Cruz,Ed Robinson, Red Rat, Ky-Enie and Jr. Demus are among the acts confirmed to perform at Irie Jamboree in New York on August 22nd and one avid fan who will be there to cheer McGregor on is Pat Mc Kay, radio host at Sirius radio in New York.
"I've seen him perform countless times and can tell you he's at his best when he can hear the requests being shouted by fans" McKay said.
Dancehall bad girl Cecile, who will shear the stage with McGregor at Jamboree said, "I've admired his work and his consistency over the years. His music will live forever!"
Veteran crooner Barrington Levy has carried Jamaica's musical torch with great success. He has not performed at an outdoor event in New York since the start of the new millennium and fans can't wait to see belt out familiar hits like "Broader Than Broadway," "Living Dangerously," "My Black Girl" "Collie Weed", "Twenty-One Girls Salute" and "Mind Your Mouth" Irie Jamboree. The highlight of the festival could however be the three-the-hard- way combination of Half Pint, Frankie Paul and Pinchers.
Paul has delivered many spirited performances in his career, including a memorable set at the Heineken Startime concert at Island Village in Jamaica last May. On wax, he has blazed a musical trail with reggae ballads like "Ksyung Peng," "Hot Number," "Worries In The Dance," "Sarah," "I Know The Score," "Worries In The Dance" and "Alisha."
Half Pint released his first single, "Sally" in 1993, followed by the highly successful "Winsome" which quickly became the anthem of the day. He has since bombarded the charts with a slew of hits, including "Mr. Landlord," Greetings," "Level the Vibes" and the massive chart topper, "Victory."
Pinchers was a mega star back in the 80's, intriguing fans with his unique vocal styling. He stormed the charts with the mega-hit was "Agony" followed by "I Am A Don," "Bandelero" and "Riding West" with top dj Bounty Killer. However it is his dapper outfits and his ability to whip a crowd into a frenzy that has made him a favorite on the international reggae circuit.
