NEW YORK (www.spinningimages.com) - Long Island rock band Spinning Images is going where few local artists have gone before them. Not only is radio powerhouse WLIR 107.1 "
The Box" spinning the band's first single, "Maybe," from its latest independent release, DNA, but the song cracked the station's top 30 before topping out at No 23.
"Commercial radio will swallow smash singles such as 'Maybe' and the sensitive 'Self Destruct,'" says Harlan Friedman,
Music director at WLIR in his Long Island Press Column. "The scream-core kids will eat up the track 'Til Tuesday,' and cuts like 'Indecisive' and 'Pearl' will cement Spinning Images' credibility with its public."
New Yorkers can see the band perform live in the coming weeks. On Tuesday, August 17, Spinning Images performs at the Nutty Irishman in Bay Shore, opening for Blazed (featuring the son of Dee Snider). Tickets for the 21 and over show are $5 and show time is 9:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, August 28, the band will perform at Arlene's Grocery in NYC. Tickets for that 21 and over show are $7 and starts at 9 p.m.
Indeed, there is something for rock fans of varying ages and tastes with Spinning Images. With influences that range from Sunny Day Real Estate to Bob Marley, Spinning Images crafts songs that are laced with guitar riffs and screams, all the while maintaining a melodic alt/rock sensibility that is uniquely their own. As a result, they have had the opportunity to share the stage with bands such as Godsmack, Fuel, Three Doors Down, Jimmy Eat World, Dishwalla, Sponge and Quiet Riot.
DNA was produced by Scrap 60 (Anthrax, H2O, Ill Nino, Primer 55) and Starpolish CEO Vivek J. Tiwary, who also manages the band. The result is a slickly produced yet raw-sounding record that captures the live energy of Spinning Images while being fleshed out enough to stay radio friendly. With the charting on WLIR in addition to airplay and performances on WBAB and 98.5 "The Bone," that radio quality is likely what will launch this powerful quartet into the national spotlight in the coming months. Plans are in place for regional touring and distribution as well.
