SANTA MONICA, CA. (SLG Records) - SLG Records and Kissing Booth Records are proud to announce the release of "Shine," the new project of singer/songwriter Meredith Brooks. Best known for the smash hit "Bitch" from her 1997 debut "Blurring The Edges," Brooks immediately established herself as one of the gutsier of a new generation of female pop/rockers such as Sheryl Crow, Alannis Morissette, and others. Her forthright style is unmistakable, and the songs on "Shine" continue that tradition with an extra dose of self-awareness.
Brooks' songwriting is so insightful, it even caught the attention of Dr. Phil, who chose the title track for a series of on-air spots for the new season of his show. Brooks will perform "Shine" on the "Dr. Phil Show" the day of its release. "Shine" will be released on September 21.

Written and produced by Brooks, the release of "Shine" is a triumph of sorts for the artist. Not only is it an artistic peak, as the songwriting is more perceptive and the music as energized as ever, but the album's release represents a victory over the obstacles of an increasingly harsh music industry. The follow-up to "Deconstruction," the album was set for release yet was stillborn as the original label went out of business literally on the day of its release.

Understandably discouraged, Brooks regrouped and persevered to get "Shine" released. She also had the support of her fans, two of whom turned out to be none other than Dr. Phil and his wife, Robin, who are now dyed-in-the-wool Brooks fans! The songs on "Shine," in particular the title track, so impressed the self-help guru that he chose to showcase "Shine" to promote his new season of shows.

With the backing of SLG Records and the support of Dr. Phil, "Shine" is poised for major success. Said Steve Vining, President of SLG Records: "Meredith's full display of talents are in evidence on `Shine' - inspired songwriting, deft guitar work, soaring vocals and a sensibility borne out of the struggle and ultimate accomplishment of a goal doggedly pursued. Our hope is the association with Dr. Phil brings this artist's work the broad recognition it so richly deserves to a whole new audience."

SLG Records is a division of the Savoy Label Group, which is the North American unit of Columbia Music Entertainment (formerly Nippon Columbia), the oldest music company in Japan.
Newly reorganized and now headed by Chairman Strauss Zelnick, Columbia Music Entertainment has reemerged as a significant force with a stable of newly signed, platinum-selling artists.
