LOS ANGELES (www.kcrw.com/see4/) - On Saturday, November 20, 2004, Southern California's number one public radio station 89.9 FM KCRW presents its fourth annual benefit concert, A SOUNDS ECLECTIC EVENING, at the Universal Amphitheatre. Chris
Martin and Jonny Buckland of COLDPLAY will perform for their only U.S. live appearance. Rilo Kiley and Nellie McKay will also perform. Other artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
Details Magazine calls KCRW "The most influential radio station in America" and The Wall Street Journal says "'Morning Becomes Eclectic' (is) one of the most interesting and influential radio shows in the U.S."
KCRW Music Director Nic Harcourt says, "KCRW is thrilled that Chris and Jonny are going to perform at this year's Sounds Eclectic Evening. The concert is not only a chance for us to showcase some of the most famous artists who received our on-air support early in their careers, but also up-and-coming artists and bands that we believe in. I'm always excited about these shows and this one should be a great success as a benefit for the station, as well as being one of the best live shows in Southern California this year."
KCRW was the first radio station in America to play Coldplay on air in 2000. The band made their U.S. live radio debut December 20, 2000, on the station's signature music program, "Morning Becomes Eclectic." Even after Coldplay's meteoric rise to success in America, they returned to the radio station that helped launch their career in the States - first, on December 10, 2001, when Chris Martin performed an acoustic set and interviewed with host Nic Harcourt, and then again the following year, on August 20, 2002, with bandmate Jonny Buckland to perform select tracks from their sophomore album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. (All live sessions are archived at KCRW.com.)
KCRW is an NPR affiliate with an eclectic format that broadcasts both news and cultural programs in addition to music. Its music programming is hand-picked and free-form. The station's commitment to support new and emerging artists, without regard to record deals or promotional funding, has established its credibility in the music business.
