Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ LaFamos PR & Branding) Detroit's very own diamond in the rough, TaQuita Thorns, is proving to the world she is much more then a pretty face, with her highly-anticipated debut album Rough & Fancy: Vol. 1, now on Spotify, iTunes and other internet retailers. The CD also is available at www.TaQuitaThorns.com. The Rock 'n' Soul diva has been igniting the stage and promoting her music with the release of her infectious and wildly popular single and video "Believe (Power of Love)," and her uplifting follow-up single and video "Nobody But You." Donning her graceful and powerful chords, both singles grabbed the attention of music lovers across the country and her debut solo album is sure to do the same.
Inspired by classic R&B, soul, funk and pop, the shining powerhouse creates a signature sound that's all her own. "I have dreamed for years about sharing a collection of music for all to hear and enjoy. That day has finally come," Thorns explains. Featuring lyrics about love, relationships, strength and respect for the planet, Rough & Fancy: Vol. 1 is a soundtrack for a positive lifestyle. The album features 15 songs and includes tracks produced by
David Z, Deon Estus,
Aaron McClain, and Eddie Hedges. Placing importance on the integrity of her music and her personal journey, Thorns writes honest lyrics and her authenticity shines through. "The title of my debut album was a nickname given to me by my middle school principal. More than just a nickname reflecting my sense of fashion and personality, "Rough & Fancy" describes my experience growing up in the slums of Detroit," Thorns states. "I always loved to dress up and perform for family and friends. It made me feel fancy and lifted my spirits no matter how rough my struggles or surroundings were. Rough & Fancy is the music of my soul."
Opening the album is Thorn's velvety voice and a sexy electric guitar solo by Joshua Sklair on "Forever," a seductive song about craving love from that special someone for a lifetime. Thorns displays her chops by creating a stellar remix of soul diva Anita Baker's 1987 Grammy-award winning single, "Sweet Love." She also covers the 1965 number 1 R&B single "
Shotgun" by Jr. Walker & the All Stars. As opposed to her hard-hitting, rocking single "Believe (Power of Love)," the singer slows it down to show her softer side on the sentimental ballad "Around." Thorns' strong vocal performance bears emotional conviction and elegance. The tracks on the album feature live instrumentation and solos with high production values all around. You can find the singer's previous singles - "Believe (Power of Love)" and "
Nobody But You" - on the album, which was released by Ms. Thorns' own label, On Orbit Records.
