Crystal Fighters To Tour With Portugal. The Man This Fall 2013
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) UK/Basque-based Crystal Fighters will return to the U.S. this fall, supporting Portugal. The Man on most dates.

The dates kick off Friday, Sept. 27 at Terminal 5 in New York City with Portugal. The Man and continue through the end of October, wrapping up on the West Coast with headline stops in Los Angeles and San Diego.

The tour announcement is on the heels of the band's headline tour, which saw the band playing sold out shows on nearly every stop in the 13-city North American run.

The captivating, high-energy show has drawn critical acclaim: "Fans of Crystal Fighters can attest to two undeniable truths about them: one, that the band's sound cannot be compartmentalized in any modern day label, and two, that very few shows can ever live up to the energy and drive that fuels a Crystal Fighters show." -- CMJ

In honor of the newly announced tour dates, Interview premiered a video today of an acoustic version of "You & I" performed in a cave, calling it "summery and magical."

The official video for "You & I," which can be viewed here, recently surpassed one million views. BBC's Radio One has championed the song, with Zane Lowe naming it one of his "Hottest Records in the World."

To write their second album, "CAVE RAVE," the band the band immersed themselves in the Basque hills of Spain, a region integral to the band's sound and inspiration. They then journeyed to America to record in Los Angeles with Justin Meldal-Johnsen (the Grammy nominated producer known for work with M83/Air/Beck/Paramore).

Lyrically, the album draws deeper into universal, history-permeating themes of love, death, insanity and hope; using Basque culture as a stepping stone backward to the spiritual and primal. "CAVE RAVE" explores philosophy, anthropology, time travel, spirituality and religion, themes reflected in the stunning album artwork by the visionary artist Paul Laffoley. Overall, the LP stands a thoughtful, contemplative and cohesive album with an adrenal rush, the grandstanding of American road rock, the sweat of disco, the fervent initiative of punk and the house of Iberian twilights.

"Crystal Fighters... take a unique approach to dance music, fusing African beats with techno synthesizers and folksy melodies. They use traditional Basque instruments, such as the txalaparta (think of, very broadly, a giant wooden xylophone) and the txistu (which is similar to a recorder), and create a kind of culture shock on the dance floor." -- New Yorker

"Crystal Fighters juxtapose the eerie flavour of traditional Basque folk music with churning basslines and catchy energetic vocals, resulting in a jubilant and uplifting sound unlike any other. They offer raved-up, percussive folktronica, veering from Fischerspooner-style euphoria to Animal Collective-toned delicacy, underpinned by a progressive contemporary London bass sound." -- Brooklyn Vegan
